Even more Work history

  • People always say “that makes a lot of sense” when I tell them I was an RA. I’d like to believe that it’s because I’m personable, reliable, and creative, but deep in my heart, I know I just have the face of a narc. I’m very proud of organizing a few long-running D&D Campaigns, and putting on a campus-wide Super Smash Bros. tournament, which I won fair and square.

  • I created, produced and hosted “Fünkenstein,” an hour-long weekly radio broadcast for all four years of my tenure at NDSU, becoming familiar with audio production tools and practices for live broadcasting. We played A LOT of Will Smith, performed live reads of both advertisements and slam poetry, and reviewed new music for FCC compliance, mass appeal, and relevance to the college demographic.

  • I oversaw the NDSU Chapter of NSAC throughout our creation of a prospective ad campaign pitch for Snapple - the only drink you’ll ever need. I led the media team in content creation tasks, created our proposed budget using industry software, and met regularly with our advisors and the other team leads to make sure everything was going smoothly before getting on stage and pitching our plan to Snapple execs.

  • I maintained and updated the NDSU Department of Communication's website as my senior-year internship, which involved creating a social media presence for the department’s outreach activities, meeting regularly with faculty to discuss upcoming opportunities for students, and generally being a go-to “tech guy” for the department.

  • I was able to review the unreleased albums we got at my radio station gig for a little extra money on the side. I wrote two articles a week, coordinated with my editors, and tipped our whole school off to Pompeii by Bastille two whole months before it became a huge hit.

  • I was a paperboy and door-to-door newspaper salesman during most of my summers home from college. That meant delivering papers, destroying wasp nests, and, on one memorable occasion, helping my co-worker Mike recover from heat stroke in a small town in northern Minnesota.

  • Between my Freshman and Sophomore years of college, I was a summer PR intern for a local theater. Ask me to sing any song from Hairspray. Go on, ask me! I’ll do it!

  • This is where I learned discipline, cleanliness, respect for food service workers, and fear. Please, for your own sake, don’t ask me about the jello, the watermelon, or that time a man in a jean jacket ruined our ice cream machine.

  • I’ve been helping my dad do low voltage work on job sites ever since I hit my growth spurt. We’re not sure what the statute of limitations is, but we definitely broke a few child labor laws in Kentucky, so please do not tell OSHA about this.

Education

North Dakota State University - Fargo, ND

I received a BS in Strategic Communication with a Minor in Journalism.

Basically, I built a program focused on copywriting for advertisements, while taking as many video and audio production gigs as possible.

Outside of class and my work as an RA, I was highly active with NDSU's student newspaper, radio station, and TV broadcasting studio, as well as the president of AdClub, NDSU's National Student Advertising Competition team.

I also walked to class every day, even in winter - one time, my leather jacket froze solid and began crumbling around my armpits. Not fun!

Sara and I worked closely together since joining Mojo Solo as a pair of co-writers back-to-back in August 2021. Everything that I do for Mojo Solo’s copy, Chris does for our graphic design, and that means we’ve had lots of opportunities to collaborate on the look and feel of treatments for new clients, imagine revamps of ongoing campaigns, and fine-tune the mood of projects that span months (or even years) during my time here.
